to look up each word, even if you think you know each word's meaning and pronunciation. You may well be surprised at the number of definitions some of these words have -- many of which you may not think of when you first see the word. And don't be afraid
to take notes! This is the beginning of your vocabulary building!
Study Words
Each of the following one-syllable words ends in one consonant. Before that final consonant is only one vowel. Note why the final consonant is doubled or not doubled, depending upon the ending added.
More Study Words
Each of the following one-syllable words ends in two consonants or in two vowels followed by a consonant. Note the final consonant is, therefore, never doubled.

Only one form of the word given within parentheses makes each of the following sentences make sense. Write that complete correct form of the word in the blank to the right of the given sentence.
